Dear Parents,

Thank you for your interest in St. James’ Preschool. We are pleased to offer this ministry to our church families and the community. And we are excited to begin our fiftieth year this coming September!

St. James’ Episcopal Church intends to offer Preschool as described in the attached material.  St. James’ Episcopal Church and Preschool will be making an informed decision regarding reopening policy and procedures, with a focus on student, faculty and community health.  We reserve the right to make changes in those policy and procedures based on guidance and direction received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia.

Please complete the attached Student Application Form and return it by mail or in-person to our office with a $100.00 NON-REFUNDABLE application fee. Applications are due as follows: January 17 for St. James’ Church, St. Gabriel’s Church active members, returning students and siblings.  January 24 for alumni and community member applications.

On Monday, February 5, 2024, we will begin placing students into classes. We encourage you to mail in your form prior to this date so that we may consider them as having been received. This process is not based on postmarks or when we receive a Student Application Form. All applications received by February 1st will be considered equally. If there are more requests for a class than space available, a second choice will be honored and a waiting list started.  Please note that all three, four and five-year-olds must be potty-trained (no pull-ups, please).

Applications will be processed by the Preschool Office as follows, with priority given in this order:

• St. James’ Episcopal Church Active Member or St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church Active Member
• Returning Students and their Siblings
• Graduating Student’s Siblings
• Alumni and Community Members

For purposes of Preschool admissions, “membership” at St. James’ Episcopal Church is defined as “adult communicants in good standing who are registered in the parish.”  St. Gabriel’s members: Please attach a letter from St Gabriel’s office with this application to verify your membership. The interpretation of this provision is made by the Clergy and Vestry of St. James’. Their decision will be final and may not be appealed.

Classes will begin in September 2024 and end in May 2025. The annual tuition for each class will be divided into nine monthly payments. One month’s tuition will be due May 1, 2024, in order to hold your child’s place. This “commitment payment” will be non-refundable and applied towards your last month’s tuition. If we do not receive your check by May 8, 2024, we will go to the next student on our waiting list. On September 1st and each month thereafter, monthly tuition will be collected on the 1st of each month through April. After September 1st, if you need to withdraw your child, we will require thirty days’ notice. All other decisions are at the discretion of the Director and Preschool Administration.
